About the Fain & Smathers Veterinarians........

Dr. David Fain

 Dr. David C. Fain graduated with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University in 1980 after obtaining his Bachelor’s Degrees in Agronomy in 1977 and VetMed in 1979. Shortly after graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Fain returned home to the Lakes Area and formed the original Fain Veterinary Hospital in January of 1982. Dr. Fain was raised on an East Texas ranch and decided to become a veterinarian because he knew that working with and helping animals would be rewarding. When Dr. Fain is not performing his duties as a veterinarian and managing owner of Fain & Smathers Veterinary Hospital, he enjoys ranching, camping and coin collecting. Dr. Fain also enjoys spending his time with his wife, Mary Lou, and two daughters, Leslie and Lori, and their families. Dr. Fain has a dog, “Bandit”, and a cat, “Callie”. When asked what he likes most about his job as a veterinarian, he says educating the public about proper animal care ranks number one.

Dr. Royce Smathers

Dr. Royce D. Smathers graduated with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University in 1980. Dr. Smathers originally started his Bachelor’s Degree at Texas Tech University prior to being accepted to veterinary school. He joined the practice in July of 1989 and the practice named changed to Fain & Smathers Veterinary Hospital, thereafter. Dr. Smathers’ all time favorite hobby is photography and anything that has to do with photography. He particularly likes taking nature pictures and also pictures of youth at the local rodeos. He also likes spending time with his family including his wife, Robin, sons, John, Casey, and Ethan, and daughter Molly and their families. Although, he has a number of pets and livestock, he certainly favors his dog named “Pup”. The best thing that Dr. Smathers likes about his job as a veterinarian is the variety of different pets, people, and cases that he sees on a daily basis.  Every day is something new!

Dr. Dusty Taff

Dr. Dusty Taff graduated with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State University in 2004 after completing his Bachelors Degree Animal Science in 2001. Dr. Taff joined the team at Fain & Smathers in November 2010 after practicing in Alabama for six years. Dr. Taff has wanted to be a veterinarian since childhoood while growing up on a family farm in Oklahoma. He enjoys spending time with his wife Lyndi and playing with his three wonderful children, sons: Kasten and Keagan and daugher: Kynli Jo. Dr. Taff has a Golden Retriever named "Sutton" and a cat named "Pete".
